What? Monthly Activities to help your preschooler grow and develop! The Pre-K Passport provides families with over 80 fun, educational, brain-building activities that can be completed over the course of a year. Each month highlights a key verb–Appreciate, Play, Express, Explore, Create, Perform, Imagine, Cooperate, Learn, Observe, Contribute, and Protect–so families can focus on specific skills throughout the year. Each activity was specifically designed to prepare children for kindergarten by encouraging them to use their imaginations, to explore the world around them, and to develop the skills needed for elementary school.
Community Outings to local museums and businesses! While most activities can be done at home, each month contains a Community Outing, and the passport gains families free admission to local museums and art centers in Liberal during some of these outings.
Passport Kits Along with the Passport, participating families will also receive a Passport Kit. This kit includes all of the materials necessary to complete the activities.Through the Early Literacy Grant funded by the Kansas Health Foundation, three hundred Passports and kits–in both English and Spanish–were prepared for the launch of the project in June 2023.
Why? The Liberal Area Coalition for Families launched its Pre-K Passport in 2023 with the hope that families will use the Pre-K Passport as a tool that can walk them through how to make sure their children have acquired or are working on the skills they need to thrive once they are in school.
Who? Children who will be enrolling in Kindergarten in one year. The Passport Calendar begins in June, and children must be four years old by August 31 of this year in order to participate.
